This is such a great album! I was listening on the train earlier today and I enjoyed it so much. Every track. Every little detail. So great.

I’ve seen Lightning Dust live a couple of times. Amber has such a brilliant voice. The album is dreamy and lovely. You should listen!Amber and Joshua’s other band, Black Mountain, are touring again and are will be at End of the Road in September. Check it.

Lightning Dust.

of Montreal are one of my most favourite bands. They’ve got over 10 years worth of releases and so many amazing, wonderful, sweet songs- probably a dozen or more of my favourite songs ever are of Montreal songs. Not only that, but of Montreal are an utterly joyous live band.

Lots of folk don’t seem to dig their recent material, but I loved ‘Skeletal Lamping’ and the songs are so fun live. It’s really different from the earlier work, but still charming and so catchy.

They’ve got a new record out later this year- ‘False Priest’. They seem to be a really ambitious band and I can’t wait to hear what they come up with. of Montreal always give me a nice warm familiar feeling whenever I put on any of their music, I can’t wait for the new record and for them to be back over here. Woo!

Last weekend I got to invite some friends to come perform at Bandstand Busking.

Adam & Chad of The Tailors:

Forest City Lovers:

Al Lewis & Sarah Howells:

Busks go online at Bandstand Busking.

Still my favourite music video ever:

Beach House are soooooooooo great.

So, my favourite place to hang out in London, The British Library, has a little rack with 10p postcards on. What a bargain! It’s ultra mega cheap to send postcards to anywhere in the world pretty much. Including the cost of the postcard and the stamp it was like £2 to send 2 postcards to the US from here last week.

Anyone fun want to start a fun thing with me? A postcard-centric thing? Like postcard pen pals? It’d be fun! Email me if you do.

Yeah!

I haven’t listened to Xiu Xiu in ages, but this cover randomly came on on my ipod. It’s from ‘Women As Lovers’. It’s great great great. Listen here.

You should listen to the album if you’ve never heard it. I also enjoy ‘Fabulous Muscles’, but haven’t heard their other releases. Xiu Xiu have a new album released this year… I haven’t heard it yet, but I’ll be sure to check it out.

They play at Plan B next weekend. I might pop a long if public transport is not nuts. I hate TFL on weekends.

Today I was in the car and suddenly thought of She Keeps Bees and how brilliant they are. I’m excited for when they have a new album/come back here.

If you haven’t heard the old album, you should. Every time I make a playlist for a show (which is fairly frequently) I always include a She Keeps Bees song from ‘Nests’. Then, when it comes on I’ve usually forgotten that it’s on there and so it makes me go ‘Awwwwwww, She Keeps Bees!’ and do a swoon. They deserve your swoons too- listen to them! She Keeps Bees

Beach House on Tuesday at Heaven! YEAH! I LOVE BEACH HOUSE!

Wow, this is pretty joyous:

Holly Miranda with a chorus that includes Nicole Akins, Scott Matthew and Kyp Malone. Such a great song; I can’t wait to hear it on a release or something. NYC Taper taped that whole set, you can download it on their website. Such a wonderful website it is too, I wish London had something similar…

Holly’s ash cloud-canceled April UK dates have been rescheduled for July. I can’t recommend coming to a show enough- I’ll be at both London dates for sure. She’s great!

Holly Miranda.

‘Peeling Off The Layers’ is a brilliant song from Wildbirds & Peacedrum’s recent ‘Retina EP’. I love the way it’s recorded- Mariam sounds like she’s singing in a big spacious room, and then like she’s singing right besides you, right into your ear. You have to hear this song! You can buy this EP from Leaf.

The next EP is called ‘Iris’ and is out in a few weeks. Sign up to the mailing list to get ‘The Well’. It has some amazing steel drum that sounds a bit like how the inside of my head sounds when I get an idea. I think.

Wildbirds are a stunning live act who are constantly coming up with new ways to make their live set refreshing and interesting. They’re one of the best live bands performing today, and their set at The Social is still the most exciting  live set I’ve ever seen- and all the following times I’ve seen them have been amazing. Such a brilliant band.
