How do other photographers feel about their photos being used without permission OR credit? A lot of photographers I know find it to be completely unacceptable.
Personally, I think it’s totally fine to take without asking for smaller things (like online stuff) as long is credit is given, but surely it’s only polite to ask first? Even for the smaller things, it is kind of rude to take without asking if NO credit is given, no?

I completely agree with you. For the smaller stuff, I don’t really mind as long as credit is given, but it’s nice if they ask first. Not asking and not giving credit is pretty rude.
What do you do if you find a site has taken your photo without crediting?
It depends. If it’s just a small thing I just sigh and am not all that bothered really. One time I found an online music magazine had used one of my photos as a background for a double page spread, with credit, but without asking. Considering it was pretty prominent in their magazine I wrote them an email and they apologized and pretty much said they ‘thought’ they asked. But yeah, I really think it’s just good manners to ask before taking.
Really? It’s good that they gave you an apology. Yeah, I guess it all depends! I’ve not had anything bad so far, so I’ve not really chased up on credit. It’s just a bit irritating when you stumble across your photos and they’ve not been credited. I’m always really grateful when people email me beforehand.
Yeah! Also, once The Guardian used one of my shots on their site and forgot to put credit too- even though when I said they could use it in print I did request credit. I emailed and they added it.
I guess non-photographers are more prone to forgetting that photos belong to people.
But yeah, I do always appreciate the people who ask
