Holly Miranda at Westminster Library

On Tuesday I continued a Holly-centric run of gigs and popped along to Westminster Reference Library. I love the Library! It’s such a wonderful place to see shows. The staff there are so sweet and enthusiastic and it’s just super fun.

I was so excited to see Holly and the band play again. I’m really just repeating myself, but I can’t express how brilliant they are! All four of them in the band. They’re incredible. Holly has a beautiful voice. David Jack Daniels is a brilliant drummer, Will Cameron’s bass parts add so much to every song and he has a great voice; and Timmy is just wonderful. I love when he sings with Holly, and his guitar parts are perfect.

My favourite bits of the set were all of it. They did their Etta James cover again as well as ‘Glass, Concrete & Stone’ by David Byrne. The new songs are wonderful; I can’t wait to hear them on whatever they release next. Watching and hearing Holly sing is something special. It was so hot, all the windows of the library were open and the sound was encompassing. It just felt really special and so lovely. There’s so much soul and beauty in her voice.

I have so much love for this. One of my favourite bands I’ve seen play. And I’ve heard hundreds and hundreds of people sing live, and not many have had voices quite as breathtakingly wonderful as Holly’s.

It’s so joyous finding something to love as much as this. When you think how many shows I go to, it doesn’t really happen all that often. I mean; I get to see loads of stuff which I often love- but then there are these really special bands that just completely capture me. Like Wildbirds & Peacedrums, The Antlers, Scary Mansion, She Keeps Bees… I did the same thing with those bands. I saw them all lots in a very small amount of time and listened to their albums a million times. They are my favourites, pretty much. I love what they do so, so much. I love loads of other acts too, of course, but I haven’t gotten to do that thing where I see them play like four times in the space of a week. You really know if you love a band if you can watch them so many times and not be bored.

I love when this happens! You should listen to the songs and see a show and maybe you’ll feel the same. I’m going to see them play again at Field Day on Saturday: YESSSSSSSSSS!
