The Arrangement‘ – from the Zebra EP. I’m hooked on this song a bit at the moment.

I love Beach House soooooooooooo much. They have a show here in November at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, as well as dates in other cities that are not London. You can find out about that over on their Myspace.

This is incredible. The duo do three of my favourite live songs ever – ‘My Heart’, ‘There Is No Light’ and ‘Today/Tomorrow’. Easily one of the best Take Away Shows ever, I’d say! Truly phenomenal. Andreas and Mariam are in New York. Beautifully filmed, as ever.

Watch here.

Alot of people seem to complain that Wildbirds & Peacedrums aren’t that great on record. I, personally, love their recorded music. I have to say though, there is something so jaw dropping, unique and very special about their live show. If you’re not completely won over by W&P yet, do watch those videos or go to a show.

The ‘Today/Tomorrow’ portion of that first video is particularly astounding. Mariam’s voice is spectacular, and watching them both tear into their drums. AMAZING.

And be sure to check out ‘Rivers’, the product of their ‘Iris’ and ‘Retina’ EPs.

Oh and in more Wildbirds news, check out this video at 6.30 in. They perform ‘Hyperballad’ in honor of Bjork at the Polar Music Prize. Excellent.

I am very smitten with the Glasser album. We’ve listened to it a good few times in the office, and I can safely say it is brilliant.

Glasser is the work of Cameron Mesirow, her debut album is to be released in a couple of months on True Panther Sounds. It’s called ‘Ring’. It’s consistently great from start to finish. It’s a really bold album, dreamy but strong and very catchy.

Seen Caitlin play half a dozen or so times now…

She’s brilliant.

THIS is Foxy Shazam:

Pretty mental? YES.

The singer, Eric, regaled us with tales of the absurd; “You know Bowie? You know Jack Nicholson?” (yes) “Foxy Shazam! Is the first album they worked on together”. It was brilliant. My friend Chris described it as ‘if Monotonix grew up listening to Queen’. I’d agree with that, and throw in some Man Man for good measure. An insane combo. Eric sings with a falsetto and has a squeaky high pitched voice, which made everything even more ridiculously comical.

The whole band were nuts and climbed on whatever they could, writhed on the floor… it was so fun. The songs were really poppy and actually very enjoyable too.

Eric wanted a smoke:

The crowd obliged him:

He lit three at once:

Then turned them round and stuffed them in his mouth:

And he ate them. Actually ate them. Properly. Like, he ACTUALLY ate them. It all went down his throat, he didn’t spit anything out or anything.

There’s no way that could have been pleasant.

Amazing/disgusting. Very impressive.

An excellent live band and a brilliant end to a week of fairly ’serious’ music. Some brilliant, light hearted fun. Would definitely recommend catching this band.

Review: Wildbirds & Peacedrums at The Lexington

Lucky number 11. The eleventh time I’ve seen this band, and they still hold their crown as my favourite live band. 100% awesome 100% of the time. The Swedish duo have made an album this year which features a choir… their last London show had the choir in tow, and their next one (November at Union Chapel) will also feature the choir, so this was a ’special’ ‘normal’ show with just the pair of them, Mariam and Andreas. I’m firmly of the belief that every Wildbirds show from here on will be very special. In fact, I’m pretty sure all the times I’ve seen them have felt very special. They’re just an incredible band; completely unique.

They played a mixture of new songs as well as some older ones too. Favourites ‘There Is No Light’ and ‘Places’ made their way into the set, as well as ‘the first song they ever wrote’ (featuring the ‘wildbird’ lyric that I guess they take their name from) ‘The Window’. Mariam’s voice is incredible. She came away from the mic, right to the front of the stage and everyone listened intently. Incredible.

Secondly, Mariam is such a charismatic frontwoman; while she sings she looks completely possessed. She’s SO into the music. A perfect illustration of how into it she is came last night, when during ‘The Drop’, a beautifully sad, tender song, a sound tech managed to crawl onto the stage and pull out the wrong mic cable. Mariam stopped abruptly and looked as though she had been woken from a dream; genuinely shocked. She put her hand on her heart and looked at Andreas and commented on it, looking genuinely saddened. Everyone just watched in silence. She seemed really shaken! She took a moment to compose herself and then started the song again, with an encouraging cheer and applause from the crowd. I love that she plays with so much passion and energy and really pours her emotion into her performance, it’s a beautiful thing.

They did ‘Liar/Lion’ also from ‘The Snake’ and more newer ones like the brilliant ‘Wave’. Thirdly, Mariam is a multi tasking supremo. Working bass pedals, playing steel drum and singing all at once is no easy task and she does it so brilliantly.

Andreas is just one of the most incredible drummers I’ve ever seen live. So much texture and interesting little parts to his pieces. Such an animated drummer too. Really, completely phenomenal. Together, they’re stunning. They feed off each other’s energy and it’s really intense.

Soon came time for my favourite… ‘My Heart’!!!!! Yes. It was brilliant. Mariam did that pause that lasts about 1 second but feels like about a year. It’s the best.

I love this band completely. They always manage to impress me. Love them.

Please vote for Caitlin.

They were all very sleepy after a tiring day. The five piece are from New York… their live show is brilliant. You can have a listen to a couple of their songs here. I snapped their live show too, see here.
