NEW SONG.

Yesterday I spent the day in Bristol in the studio with Peggy Sue and John Parish. I supplied an operatic verse which will feature in the middle of the album*.

The new record sounds like it will be amazing and I can’t wait to hear the finished thing. In the mean time, if you don’t already own this one you should pick it up:

Buy from Witchita.

I really think Peggy Sue are one of the most exciting, if not THE most exciting, bands in the UK at the moment. They’re excellent on record and brilliant live, and after watching them in the studio I really think they are very amazing.

*this is a lie, there will be no operatic verse. Sad.

My friend Jen has a radio show which she is using to promote her Face Lol agenda.

Here is my face lol:

“Face LOLing is good for your awesomeness!!!” – see.

My old favourites are back after like a whole YEAR!

And they have a new record on the way. New songs, new songs!!

Here is an outtake from the morning shoot with TFS the other day.

This is the moment when Christian got his hand stuck inside an old guitar.

Dusty.

On Saturday I spent the day at Shhh Festival over at Cecil Sharp House. I actually spent most of the day sitting at the front door which was semi-fun (it’s nice bantering with punters about their injured kittens and whatnot) but I didn’t get to check out much music.

I did see a bit of Conquering Animal Sound who sounded great and Still Corners who are awesome.

Fresh off of tour with Austra, Tasseomancy (formerly Ghost Bees) did a set of their own brilliant songs to a packed out dark room downstairs. Their new/unreleased songs are really fantastic and they are excellent performers. It had been eight months since they were last here and it was nice to see them again. The band is made up of twins Sari and Romy Lightman who hail from fair Canada.

Then I spent all day on Sunday with Sari and Romy; we drank tea, sought out high fashion (inspiration for Classy Stitch p’haps) and ate Japanese food. They are 100% awesome and I can’t wait to see them again. We did lots of chats about music and they recommended some things.

Diamond Rings -

The twins had lots of great things to say about their pal Diamond Rings so I gave his music a proper listen and I love this song especially. Sweet song and gloriously catchy. The video is so great. There needs to be more dancing videos! I think this ALL the time. If a video has a good dance (and song) in it I will watch it 10+ times. I must’ve watched Creaky Boards’ ‘Brooklyn‘ video a dozen times. And probably ‘Wuthering Heights’ about 8000 times now. Best dance ever.

The Shaggs-

Sari and Romy told me about how this band came to exist and, wow. All I can say is: wow. What the hell is going on here, eh?!?! Mad.

I haven’t had so much time to write in my blog lately as I have been super duper busy, but I am so excited for those three Sea of Bees shows I announced yesterday. They will be lovely. I spent the morning today with Treefight For Sunlight over in a cool warehouse space in Hackney Wick. They have an album on Bella Union and are lovely guys, you should check out their music here. Hmmm what else? Last week I made a video with Alessi for a song on her new album. I’ve been doing lots of drawing. I have five days left to do my taxes. Yikes. On Friday I am going to Bristol to visit Peggy Sue in the recording studio. Busy busy busy. All good things. Apart from the taxes thing. I wish the tax dude was really like this.

And here’s an old song I can’t stop listening to:

So great. The song is better if you think the ‘he’ they refer to is a cat. I prefer picturing it that way tbh.

Bella Union’s TFS do a Wuthering Heights cover and apparently played it for me last night even though I wasn’t there…… luckily, via the powers of technology, my friend Paul was able to capture it:

HEATHCLIFF! IT’S ME YOUR CATHY! I’VE COME HOME! I’M SO CO O O O OLD! LET ME INNA YOUR WINDOW!

OOH IT GETS DARK

Buy this. I can’t wait for my copy to come. It’s BRILLIANT.

I know they say it was released in December 2010, but the whole album was available nowhere (and still isn’t), so I’m saying it’s released in 2011 and this is my favourite album of 2011 so far.

There are 8 of the 9 tracks up there now. Only one to go! It’s free to download, but if you like it you should buy it.

If Celebration are at SXSW I would be excited x 100.

Here are some photos of the lovely Treefight For Sunlight.
