Oh! I’ve been sososo busy. I’ll write about the other stuff later, but today I want to write about Tasseomancy.

On Tuesday night I was reunited with sisters Sari and Romy who I had not seen since Texas. We had a very busy day yesterday; we filmed two sessions, did an interview and a photo session. AND a headline show at the roofpark, with 130ish people along to watch.

Here they are there:

The show was a unanimous success. We watched Suspiria after and it was brilliant.

Today we shared a couple of cool things:

1. Heavy Sleep (Official Video) by Derrick Belcham

2. Heavy Sleep (Maya Postepski Remix)

Tasseomancy – Heavy Sleep (Maya Postepski Remix) by tasseomancy

Austra bandmate and friend Maya remixed Heavy Sleep. This is brilliant.

More Tasseomancy things soon, soon.

She Keeps Bees // Peggy Sue
Meltdown Festival

Oh! What a lovely day this was, to have both my friends She Keeps Bees and Peggy Sue playing together back to back on our Bandstand Busking stage at Meltdown Festival, inside the Royal Festival Hall.

Peggy and Bees both have new albums coming out this year; both have new killer songs and both rule live.

Peggy Sue

Jess

Andy

I had not seen Jess & Andy since SXSW, and it’s always a treat to see them and have them play. They played as a trio, for the first time; roping in the help of friend Eoin/Oh Ruin (who played our stage last year). They sounded incredible and the new songs are superb. Whattaband!

After the show we used Peggy Sue’s extra expenses to buy ice cream. I opted for Nutella ice cream in a cone; I give this both thumbs up.

The rain held out just long enough for us to do this show. Crazy June weather, London.

flattering image.

Zun Zun Egui are on Bella Union; album soon!

A couple of weeks ago I went to Wrexham for the NME (this is the most exotic shoot I’ve been on for them) and shot SCUM. The photo is half a page! Check out this week’s issue to see it. Here’s a different photo from that shoot:

The singer was pretty fun to photograph; very dramatic.

My friend Laura has written a brilliant article in the Guardian about Brassland; the label founded by the brothers Dessner (of The National) and Alec Hanley Bemis. The community centric label has released work from Nico Muhly, Clogs, Doveman, Buke&Gass and more. It’s a heartening and inspiring read – check it out here.

I was googling around trying to find something new to listen to and I cam across this guy Klaus Nomi. He’s incredible. He was born in ‘44 in Berlin and died in ‘83 in New York, of AIDS. In his short life he managed to create some brilliant work; completely unique and eclectic.

His huge vocal range and stunning operatic delivery is something to behold. Here are my favourites currently:

Klaus Nomi – Valentine’s Day

Klaus Nomi – Just One Look

Klaus Nomi – Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead (from Wizard Of Oz)

What a treasure!

Yes! Tomorrow!

Sam Amidon at Dalston Roof Park

Last week we invited our friend Sam to play Dalston Roof Park and watch his film pick, Monsieur Verdoux.  The show was sold out well in advance. All this on a roof top in Dalston = very lovely. Being that England has the weather consistency of a runny jelly, the weather was cloudy and chilly – but it didn’t rain, atleast!

Sam told us about his novel-in-the-works ‘King’s Speechy’ (yes) and performed a stellar set. It’s always lovely to have him around, and his film choice was excellent – I had not previously seen the Charlie Chaplin classic, but it was brilliant.

A great evening. I love Sam – if you’ve never seen him before you should catch him next time he’s around.

This event was one in a series programmed by my lovely friends Luisa and Rosa and myself; and we have plenty more. Info here. Most are sold out (!), but do nab a ticket for one of the remaining ones. Not to be missed.

I stumbled onto this free mix tape on verb/re/verb a few weeks ago. Five electronic artists covering old songs. White Horse doing S.H.O.U.T is my favourite. So good.

The above video is a teaser of the songs – download it all here.
