Some more here.

Nobody could sing this song better than Ketty.

Here she is singing ‘Love Letters’ (1962) in 1999. The piano isn’t as spooky and marvelous as the original but her voice is incredible. Stunning.

I caught Canada’s Timber Timbre playing a couple of shows here back in May. The first wasn’t so great, because a) the stage was in complete darkness, and b) the sound was really bad (Heaven is such a bad venue). The second was one million times better and I very much enjoyed it, mostly because a) I could see, and b) I could hear Taylor Kirk’s beautiful music properly (The Luminaire is a very good venue).

TT has some UK shows coming ip and you’d do well to pop along to one and be all delighted by that haunting pedal steel and Taylor’s incredible voice…

8/9 at Scala w/Phosphorescent + Caitlin Rose
11/9 at End of the Road Festival, Dorset
27/9 at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen

I’d recommend the Scala show. It’ll be a gooden. And if you’ve not heard it yet, check out the s/t album!

Check it out:

Made this at work today. I got creative on the ol’ Photoshop.

See it big here! If you know the random lady tell her she’s won and to get in touch!

#9:

I wouldn’t go see someone play nine times if I thought they were bad, right? Right.

Listen to Caitlin’s songs here. Go to one of her shows! Great!

Last night I trekked (really, TREKKED) all the way down to Brixton. Heidi Spencer had her first UK/London show playing in support of Caitlin Rose. She was very warmly received by the audience who were obviously all charmed by her sweet and nervous stage banter and wonderful voice…

She was accompanied by Simon Raymonde on the keyboard and Stephanie Dosen who played lap steel and sang with Heidi too. Despite being a wee bit nervous Heidi performed excellently; it really was a lovely show.

Have a listen to Heidi’s music here. Her voice is beautiful and she has some wonderful songs.

She also did this nice interview recently for Wears The Trousers. Have a look.

Just a reminder about Peter Broderick’s next headline show here in London, on the 16th of October at St Giles Church. It’s his first here in ages, and I can’t wait. I’ve seen him live a couple of times doing his own songs (and a couple of times with Efterklang) and he really is brilliant. He’s a talented musician and a great performer – I would definitely recommend catching him play live and having a listen to his records…

‘How They Are’ is his latest.

I really like this new Girls song, ‘Oh My Love‘. I guess it’ll be on the new album. I’m really looking forward to that next album, all the new songs they played live recently sounded brilliant (‘Lysandre‘ in particular). Summery, sweet pop at its best. I’ve seen Girls a few times now and I think their live show keeps improving. It’s pretty laid back and chilled, with no tricks or gimmicks, just brilliant songs delivered well. If you’ve not heard their first record, ‘Album’, you should check it out. Great songs.

Sea of Bees London shows

Sea of Bees is coming over very soon for a string of shows. See:

14th of September @ The Social
15th of September @ Dingwall’s
18th of September @ Rough Trade West (in-store)
18th of September @ Ginglik
20th of September @ the Slaughtered Lamb
21st of September @ the Jazz Cafe w/ Damien Jurado
23rd of September @ Queen Elizabeth Hall (free in the foyer)

Look at all those shows. Two of them are free so you don’t really have any excuse to not pop along to atleast one, right? Right. Her name is Jules and her album is very very good; be sure to pick it up at a show.

Have a listen to the songs on her Myspace. Start on ‘Gnomes’ and go ‘wow’…

Yesterday I had the pleasure of having a very Mountain Man-centric day. The three ladies that make up the band each have incredible voices, and when put together it’s a big ol’ swoonfest.

Earlier in the day we got to pop in a guitar shop on nearby Denmark Street and listen to the trio perform one beautiful accappella song:

Very amazing.

Then later in the day they charmed everyone in the church:

Very, very special. You need to go see Mountain Man live, and check out their album.
